Do not remove the dipstick or the filler cap while the engine is running.
Wait 15 minutes after a hot shutdown before you read the dipstick. An earlier reading can be wrong.
Do not add oil past the maximum mark. The manual says that may cause engine damage.
Do not use supplemental engine oil additives. Do not use oil labeled API SN unless the label also shows the API certification mark.
Do not pour gasoline 5W-20 or 5W-30 into the 3.0L diesel. The diesel oil is WSS-M2C214-B1.
The 2.7L cold-climate heading includes the words If Equipped. SAE 0W-30 is not the normal fill.
Symptoms
Change Engine Oil Soon means about 10 percent oil life or less. Oil Change Required means the oil life left is 0 percent.
Low Engine Oil Pressure says to stop when it is safe, switch the engine off, and check the level. If the warning stays on with the engine running, have the truck checked.
Diagnosis
The 2.7L and 3.5L EcoBoost are SAE 5W-30. The 3.3L and 5.0L are SAE 5W-20. The 3.0L diesel is its own oil. The 2024 book changes the 5.0L to 7.75 qt of SAE 5W-30. That is not this truck.
The normal-schedule footnote says not to exceed one year or 10,000 mi (16,000 km) between service intervals. The when-to-expect table is only a guideline for when the message may appear.
Tools
Funnel
The gasoline top-up steps say you may have to use a funnel.
Clean lint-free cloth
The gasoline and diesel oil checks say to wipe the dipstick with a clean, lint-free cloth.
Capacities for the 5.0L and the Motorcraft parts table
Service cap
Do not exceed one year or 10,000 mi (16,000 km) between service intervals. Reset the Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor after the oil and filter change.
Normal maintenance intervals
Steps
01Check a gasoline engine
Set the parking brake and put the transmission in Park or Neutral. Run the engine to normal temperature, park on level ground, switch it off, and wait 15 minutes. Wipe the dipstick, seat it, and read it again. Between the minimum and maximum marks, do not add oil. At the minimum mark, add oil immediately.
02Add gasoline oil at the filler cap
Clean around the cap, turn it counterclockwise, and add oil that meets the spec for that engine. You may need a funnel. Recheck the dipstick and turn the cap clockwise until it resists. The 2.7L EcoBoost and the 3.5L EcoBoost take SAE 5W-30, 6.0 qt (5.7 L) with the filter. The 3.3L takes SAE 5W-20, 6.0 qt (5.7 L) with the filter. The 5.0L takes SAE 5W-20, 8.8 qt (8.3 L) with the filter. Those are capacities including the filter.
03Use the filter listed for the engine
FL-2062 is the 2.7L EcoBoost filter. FL-500-S is the 3.3L, 3.5L EcoBoost, and 5.0L filter. FL-2081 is the 3.0L diesel filter. If a Motorcraft oil filter is not available, the parts notes say to use a filter that meets SAE/USCAR-36. They do not add the words Filter Type C, and they do not print a drain-plug torque.
04Treat the diesel separately and reset the monitor
The 3.0L diesel capacity including the filter is 6.5 qt (6.15 L) of Motorcraft SAE 5W-30 diesel oil meeting WSS-M2C214-B1. The diesel check uses the same 15-minute wait. Its dipstick overview labels minimum, full, and maximum. Reset the oil-life monitor from Settings, then Convenience, then Oil Life Reset. Hold OK until the cluster shows Reset Successful and 100 percent remaining. If it shows Not Reset or Reset Cancelled, repeat the process.
Notes
The when-to-expect table is a guideline, not a second capacity. It gives about 7,500–10,000 mi (12,000–16,000 km) for normal commuting, about 5,000–7,500 mi (8,000–12,000 km) for severe use, and about 3,000–5,000 mi (5,000–8,000 km) for extreme use. The normal-schedule footnote still says not to exceed one year or 10,000 mi (16,000 km).
U.S. gasoline part numbers in the materials tables are XO-5W30-QSP for the 5W-30 engines and XO-5W20-QSP for the 5W-20 engines. Canada lists CXO-5W30-LSP12 and CXO-5W20-LSP12. The diesel U.S. number is XO-5W30-QFA and the Canada number is CXO-5W30-LFA. The cold-climate 0W-30 number printed with the 2.7L section is XO-0W30-QSP. The cold-climate 0W-20 number is XO-0W20-QSP.
Pouring the 5.0L 8.8 quart capacity into a 2.7L, 3.3L, or 3.5L, which are 6.0 quarts with the filter.
Using FL-2062-A from the 2024 book. This printing lists FL-2062 for the 2.7L.
Using the 2024 SAE 5W-30 specification on the 2019 5.0L or 3.3L. Those engines in this book are SAE 5W-20.

Can 0W-20 or 0W-30 be the normal fill?
Only as the cold-climate alternative printed for ambient temperatures at or below −22.0°F (−30°C). The 2.7L and 3.5L alternative is SAE 0W-30 meeting WSS-M2C953-A1. The 3.3L and 5.0L alternative is SAE 0W-20 meeting WSS-M2C947-B1. The 2.7L heading includes the words If Equipped.
