6.0 qt (5.7 L). Motorcraft SAE 5W-30, WSS-M2C961-A1. Filter FL-500-S. The 3.5L EcoBoost section lists variant All. The hybrid is a separate section with the same quantity.
11.5 qt (10.88 L). The table column is Quantity, not Including the Oil Filter. Motorcraft SAE 5W-50 Full Synthetic, WSS-M2C931-E1, API SP. Filter FL-500-S.
Cold-climate alternative
SAE 0W-30, WSS-M2C963-A1, where ambient temperature reaches −22.0°F (−30°C) or below. Also recommended if the truck is used regularly above 5,000 ft (1,524 m) and under −4.0°F (−20°C). Printed on the 2.7L, 3.5L, hybrid, and 5.0L sections. Not printed on the 5.2L section.
Do not remove the filler cap while the engine is running.
Do not add engine oil when the engine is hot.
Do not add oil past the maximum mark. The manual says oil above that mark may cause engine damage.
Do not use supplemental engine oil additives.
Read both sides of the dipstick and use the lowest reading. Checking too soon after shutdown can be wrong.
The 5.2L fill is SAE 5W-50. Do not pour the 5W-30 used by the other engines in this book into the 5.2L.
Symptoms
The information display asks for an oil change. The manual says to replace the oil within two weeks or 500 mi (800 km) of that alert.
The dipstick is at the minimum mark after the 15-minute wait. Add oil. A reading between the marks is not a reason to add oil.
The level stays above the maximum mark. The manual says frequent short trips, idling, or low-speed driving can raise the level, and a level that stays high should be checked.
Diagnosis
Read the engine before you buy oil. The 2.7L, 3.5L EcoBoost, hybrid, and 5.0L are SAE 5W-30. The 5.2L is SAE 5W-50, and its table says Quantity rather than Including the Oil Filter.
The 5.0L with-filter capacity in this edition is 7.75 qt (7.33 L), not the 8.8 qt of SAE 5W-20 in the 2019 and 2020 books.
FL-2062-A is only the 2.7L filter in this edition. The other engines in the parts tables list FL-500-S.
Tools
Clean lint-free cloth
The level check says to wipe the dipstick with a clean, lint-free cloth, and to soak up spills with an absorbent cloth.

Alternative engine oil for extremely cold climates
Steps
01Check on level ground
Park on level ground. Check before you start the engine, or switch it off after warm-up and wait 15 minutes so the oil can drain into the pan. Wipe the dipstick with a clean, lint-free cloth, seat it, and read it again. Read both sides and use the lowest level. Between the minimum and maximum marks, do not add oil. At the minimum mark, add oil immediately. The dipstick overview marks minimum, nominal, and maximum.
02Add the oil that section names
Clean around the filler cap, remove it, and add oil that meets the specification for that engine. Turn the cap clockwise until you feel a strong resistance. The 2.7L EcoBoost, both 3.5L EcoBoost rows, the 3.5L hybrid, and the 5.0L use Motorcraft SAE 5W-30 meeting WSS-M2C961-A1. With the filter, those four are 6.0 qt (5.7 L) except the 5.0L, which is 7.75 qt (7.33 L). The 5.2L quantity is 11.5 qt (10.88 L) of Motorcraft SAE 5W-50 Full Synthetic meeting WSS-M2C931-E1. If Motorcraft oil is not available, the 5W-30 sections allow oil of the recommended viscosity that shows the API Certification Mark. The 5.2L section instead says to use oil that displays the API service symbol for API SP.
03Use the filter on that engine's table
FL-2062-A is the 2.7L EcoBoost filter, and that table has no SAE/USCAR footnote. FL-500-S is the filter for the 3.5L EcoBoost excluding Raptor, the Raptor, the 3.5L hybrid, the 5.0L, and the 5.2L. Those tables say that if a Motorcraft oil filter is not available, use a filter that aligns to SAE/USCAR-36, Filter Type C. The 5.2L note adds that use of any oil filter other than the listed Motorcraft oil filter could cause engine damage. No drain-plug torque is printed.
04Reset the oil-life monitor after the change
If the intelligent oil-life monitor asks for a change before the general service, replace the oil within two weeks or 500 mi (800 km) of the alert. Reset path 1 is Menu, Settings, Vehicle Maintenance, Oil Life, then hold OK until the reset confirmation appears. Reset path 2 is Menu, Truck Info, Engine Information, then hold OK until the confirmation appears.
Notes
The 2.7L, 3.5L, hybrid, and 5.0L cold-climate sections allow SAE 0W-30 meeting WSS-M2C963-A1 when the ambient temperature reaches −22.0°F (−30°C) or below. The same sections recommend that oil if you regularly drive above 5,000 ft (1,524 m) and under −4.0°F (−20°C). The 5.2L section that was read does not print that alternative.
Canada part numbers on the 5W-30 tables are CXO-5W30-LSP6 and CXO-5W30-LFS6. The U.S. numbers are XO-5W30-Q1SP and XO-5W30-Q1FS. The 5.2L number for the U.S. and Canada is XO-5W50-QGT.
New engines reach a normal oil-consumption level after about 3,000 mi (5,000 km). This edition does not include a 3.3L or a diesel in the Motorcraft parts tables that were read. The 2020 F-150 oil guide is a different book, and its 5.0L capacity is not this one.
Common mistakes
Pouring the 5.0L 7.75 quart capacity, or the 5.2L 11.5 quart quantity, into a 2.7L or 3.5L that lists 6.0 qt with the filter.
Using SAE 5W-20 from a 2018, 2019, or 2020 F-150 page. This edition's gasoline tables that were read specify SAE 5W-30, and the 5.2L specifies SAE 5W-50.
Treating SAE 0W-30 as the normal fill. It is the cold-climate alternative on the 2.7L, 3.5L, hybrid, and 5.0L sections.
Inventing a drain-plug torque. These pages do not print one.

In the August 2023 edition, the 2.7L EcoBoost, 3.5L EcoBoost, 3.5L hybrid, and 5.0L take Motorcraft SAE 5W-30 meeting WSS-M2C961-A1. With the filter that is 6.0 qt (5.7 L), except the 5.0L at 7.75 qt (7.33 L). The 5.2L quantity is 11.5 qt (10.88 L) of Motorcraft SAE 5W-50 Full Synthetic meeting WSS-M2C931-E1.
Is the 2024 5.0L still 8.8 quarts of 5W-20?
No. This edition lists 7.75 qt (7.33 L) of SAE 5W-30 with the filter. The 8.8 qt SAE 5W-20 figure is an earlier book.
What is the drain-plug torque?
The oil-check and capacity pages do not print one.
