Batteries produce explosive gas. Keep flames, sparks, and lighted substances away. Shield your face, protect your eyes, and ventilate.
Lift a plastic-cased battery with a battery carrier or by opposite corners. Pressure on the end walls can push acid through the vent caps.
Sulfuric acid. If it touches skin or eyes, flush with water for at least 15 minutes and get medical attention. If swallowed, call a physician immediately.
Battery posts and related parts contain lead and lead compounds. Wash your hands after handling.
The truck may have more than one battery. Disconnect the cables from all batteries.
Auto-Start-Stop must be replaced with a battery of exactly the same specification.
Wait at least two minutes after the ignition is off before you disconnect the battery. The power-hold function can be damaged if you disconnect sooner, and that damage may not be covered.
Symptoms
Charging System Service Soon means the charging system needs service. If it stays on, have the truck checked.
Charging System Service Now means have the truck checked immediately.
Turn Power Off To Save Battery means the battery state of charge is low. Turn the ignition off. The message clears after a start once the charge recovers.
Diagnosis
The warning lamp that illuminates while driving indicates a charging system error. Switch off unnecessary electrical equipment and have the truck checked.
A standard and an optional number are not interchangeable across engines. The Raptor table lists only BAGM-94RH7-800. The 2.7L table lists only BAGM-48H6-760.
Tools
Battery carrier
The lifting warning says to lift a plastic-cased battery with a battery carrier or with your hands on opposite corners.
Wire brush
If corrosion is present, remove the cables and clean the terminals with a wire brush. Baking soda and water can neutralize the acid.

Steps
01Match the battery line to the engine
The 2.7L table lists BAGM-48H6-760. The 3.5L EcoBoost table excluding Raptor lists standard BAGM-48H6-760 and optional BAGM-94RH7-800. The Raptor table lists BAGM-94RH7-800. The hybrid table lists standard BAGM-94RH7-800. The 5.0L table lists standard BAGM-48H6-760 and optional BAGM-94RH7-800. The 5.2L table lists BAGM-94RH7-800. The battery is maintenance-free and does not take added water. Reinstall the cover if the battery has one.
02Disconnect negative first
Apply the parking brake and switch the ignition off. Switch off electrical equipment such as the lights and the radio. Wait at least two minutes. Disconnect and isolate the negative terminal, then the positive terminal. Remove the securing clamp and the battery. Before you reconnect, the ignition must still be off. Reinstall the terminal covers, the battery cover, and the cable terminals. Replace the battery with one of exactly the same specification.
03Reset the sensor and let the truck sleep
With the ignition on and the engine off, finish the next two actions within 10 seconds. Flash the high beams five times, ending with the high beams off, then press and release the brake pedal three times. The battery warning lamp flashes three times if the reset succeeds. After replacement, or after some external charges, the battery management system needs eight hours of sleep with the vehicle fully locked and the ignition off. Do not ground an accessory to the negative post.
Notes
After a disconnect, reset the window bounce-back, the clock, and the radio presets. An automatic transmission must relearn its adaptive strategy, and firm shifts at first are normal. Recycle the old battery through the local authority. The H6 and H7 characters in the part numbers are printed as part of the Motorcraft number. This page does not convert them into a group size.
Common mistakes
Disconnecting the positive cable first. The removal steps say negative, then positive.
Disconnecting before the two-minute wait. The power-hold note says that can cause damage the warranty does not cover.

Part
Motorcraft BAGM-48H6-760
2.7L EcoBoost battery. Also the standard battery on the 3.5L EcoBoost excluding Raptor and on the 5.0L.
It depends on the engine table. BAGM-48H6-760 is the 2.7L battery and the standard battery on the non-Raptor 3.5L EcoBoost and the 5.0L. BAGM-94RH7-800 is the optional battery on those two, and the battery listed for Raptor, the hybrid standard line, and the 5.2L.
How do you reset the battery sensor?
Ignition on, engine off. Within 10 seconds, flash the high beams five times ending off, then press and release the brake three times. The warning lamp flashes three times when the reset succeeds.
