2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
2020 Silverado 1500 oil is dexos1. The 2.7L and 4.3L with filter are 6.0 qt of SAE 5W-30. The 5.3L L84 and 6.2L are 8.0 qt of SAE 0W-20.
Difficulty, time, and cost are estimates when this guide gives them. Torque is a cited figure, or it is left off.

Numbers on this page come from the cited source. Match the engine before you use a capacity or a torque. Do not work under a vehicle held only by a jack.
Funnel
Park on level ground. For an accurate reading, check the oil after the engine has been off for at least two hours. No drain-plug torque is printed.
| Item | Figure | Where it comes from |
|---|---|---|
| 2.7L L4 (L3B), with filter | 5.7 L (6.0 qt). Full synthetic meeting dexos1, SAE 5W-30. Filter GM 55495106, ACDelco PF66. | Capacities and Specifications; maintenance replacement parts |
| 4.3L V6 (LV3), with filter | 5.7 L (6.0 qt). Full synthetic meeting dexos1, SAE 5W-30. Filter GM 12690385, ACDelco PF63E. | Capacities and Specifications; maintenance replacement parts |
| 5.3L V8 (L84) and 6.2L V8, with filter | 7.6 L (8.0 qt). Full synthetic meeting dexos1, SAE 0W-20. Filter GM 12690385, ACDelco PF63E. | Capacities and Specifications; viscosity grade; maintenance replacement parts |
| Cold operation, 5W-30 engines | Below -29 C (-20 F), SAE 0W-30 may be used for the 2.7L L4 and 4.3L V6. It still has to meet dexos1. | Viscosity grade, cold temperature operation |
| Oil | ACDelco dexos1 full synthetic is recommended. Do not add anything to the oil. | Recommended fluids and lubricants; engine oil additives |
| Fuel, 1500 | Standard and short box, 4WD gas and diesel, 90.8 L (24.0 gal). Long box 106.0 L (28.0 gal). The long-box row is not split by fuel or drive. | Capacities and Specifications, fuel tank |
The 2.7L L4 and 4.3L V6 use SAE 5W-30. The 5.3L and 6.2L V8 engines use SAE 0W-20. All of them have to be full synthetic oils that meet dexos1. The eighth character of the VIN is the engine code.
The 2.7L and 4.3L capacity with filter is 6.0 qt. The 5.3L L84 and the 6.2L capacity with filter is 8.0 qt. The 5.3L filter row is not split by RPO, so PF63E is the 5.3L filter even though the oil-quantity row names L84 only. Capacities are approximate. Recheck the level after filling.
Park on level ground and wait at least two hours after shutdown. If you cannot wait two hours, wait at least 15 minutes on a warm engine or 30 minutes if it is not warm. If the oil is below the cross-hatched area and the engine has been off at least 15 minutes, add 1 L (1 qt) and recheck.
Below -29 C (-20 F), SAE 0W-30 may be used for the 2.7L L4 and 4.3L V6. The same sentence also names the 6.6L V8. That engine's capacity rows are labeled 2500 and 3500, so they are not copied onto this 1500 sheet. The 5.3L and 6.2L are not given that substitute.
This sheet uses the January 27, 2020 Silverado owner's manual, third printing, part 84186886 C. It is not the 2018 book. The 6.6L gas engine is labeled 2500 and 3500 in the capacity table, so those quarts are left off. A 2WD gasoline tank quantity is not a separate row. The 2WD diesel short-box row is 22.0 gal and is not used as a gas figure. If the truck is a diesel, the manual points to the Duramax supplement. No drain-plug torque is printed, so none is added.
