2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
2020 Silverado 1500 coolant is a 50/50 mix of clean drinkable water and DEX-COOL. The 2.7L is 12.4 qt. The 5.3L L82 and L84 are not the same capacity.
Difficulty, time, and cost are estimates when this guide gives them. Torque is a cited figure, or it is left off.
Main source: 2020 Chevrolet Silverado Owner Manual, GMNA-Localizing-U.S./Canada/Mexico-13337620, CTC 1/27/20, capacities and recommended fluids (opens in a new tab), General Motors, published 2020-01-27, read 2026-10-15.
Numbers on this page come from the cited source. Match the engine before you use a capacity or a torque. Do not work under a vehicle held only by a jack.
DEX-COOL mixed 50/50 with clean drinkable water
The capacity note says the values cover the entire cooling system and its components. Fill to the approximate level, then recheck.
| Item | Figure | Where it comes from |
|---|---|---|
| Coolant | 50/50 mixture of clean, drinkable water and DEX-COOL coolant. | Recommended fluids and lubricants, engine coolant |
| 2.7L L4, 1500 series | 11.8 L (12.4 qt). | Capacities and Specifications, engine cooling system |
| 4.3L V6, 1500 series | 11.5 L (12.2 qt). | Capacities and Specifications, engine cooling system |
| 5.3L V8 (L82), 1500 series | 12.8 L (13.5 qt). | Capacities and Specifications, engine cooling system |
| 5.3L V8 (L84), 1500 series | 13.1 L (13.8 qt). | Capacities and Specifications, engine cooling system |
| 6.2L V8, 1500 series | 12.6 L (13.3 qt). | Capacities and Specifications, engine cooling system |
The recommended-fluids table says engine coolant is a 50/50 mixture of clean, drinkable water and only DEX-COOL coolant.
L82 is 13.5 qt. L84 is 13.8 qt. The 2.7L is 12.4 qt, the 4.3L is 12.2 qt, and the 6.2L is 13.3 qt. The footnote says these values are based on the entire cooling system and its components.
All capacities are approximate. Fill to the approximate level recommended in the manual and recheck the fluid level after filling.
A diesel cooling-system capacity is not in this gasoline table. The manual says to see the Duramax diesel supplement. No drain procedure and no cap-torque are printed on the capacity page, so neither is added.
