2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
2020 Silverado names DEXRON-VI, DEXRON-HP, or DEXRON ULV by transmission speed. No fill quantity is printed. The 1500 transfer case is 1.6 qt of DEXRON-VI.
Difficulty, time, and cost are estimates when this guide gives them. Torque is a cited figure, or it is left off.
Main source: 2020 Chevrolet Silverado Owner Manual, GMNA-Localizing-U.S./Canada/Mexico-13337620, CTC 1/27/20, recommended fluids and capacities (opens in a new tab), General Motors, published 2020-01-27, read 2026-10-15.
Numbers on this page come from the cited source. Match the engine before you use a capacity or a torque. Do not work under a vehicle held only by a jack.
The DEXRON fluid named for that transmission
There is no transmission dipstick. The manual says the level check is a special procedure and should be done at the dealer.
| Item | Figure | Where it comes from |
|---|---|---|
| 6-speed automatic | DEXRON-VI automatic transmission fluid. No capacity is printed. | Recommended fluids and lubricants |
| 8-speed automatic | DEXRON-HP automatic transmission fluid. No capacity is printed. | Recommended fluids and lubricants |
| 10-speed automatic | DEXRON ULV automatic transmission fluid. No capacity is printed. | Recommended fluids and lubricants |
| Transfer case, 1500 series only | 1.5 L (1.6 qt). The fluids table names DEXRON-VI automatic transmission fluid for the four-wheel-drive transfer case. | Capacities and Specifications; recommended fluids |
| Front and rear axle | The fluids table says see your dealer. No axle oil name and no axle capacity are printed. | Recommended fluids and lubricants, front axle and rear axle |
A 6-speed uses DEXRON-VI. An 8-speed uses DEXRON-HP. A 10-speed uses DEXRON ULV. The table does not pair those speeds to an engine.
No automatic-transmission capacity is printed. The only 1500 gear-oil quantity in the capacity table is transfer case fluid, 1.6 qt.
The owner's manual says it is usually not necessary to check the level, there is no dipstick, and the procedure is difficult and should be done at the dealer. It points to the service manual under Publication Ordering Information.
Brake fluid is a separate row. Trucks with DOT 3 fluid use DOT 3 hydraulic brake fluid, GM 19353126 (Canada 19353127). Trucks with DOT 4 fluid use DOT 4 hydraulic brake fluid, GM 19299570 (Canada 19299571). The table does not say which trucks have which fluid, so neither part number is assigned to a trim. Axle lubricant is omitted because the cell says to see the dealer.
Outbound links only. BaySheet does not sell parts. Confirm fitment on the retailer page. Amazon links are searches for the part name plus this vehicle. They are not a part number.
