Remove the cover first. Keep the battery mounted, the top clean and dry, and the terminals clean, tight, and coated with petroleum jelly or terminal grease. Rinse spilled electrolyte with water and baking soda.
The replacement section says to contact an Authorized Mazda Dealer. Use the gasoline or diesel classification from the specifications table.
If the buttons fail and the indicator does not flash, the transmitter battery may be dead. The book prefers a dealer and also prints the CR2025 steps, positive pole up.
The key procedure is in the same battery section and is easy to confuse with the vehicle battery. CR2025 is only the transmitter.
No battery-location diagram is drawn. The engine-compartment overview in the manual labels the battery.
