2019 Honda Civic
2019 Honda Civic sedan CVT and manual transmission fluids and change capacities, from the 1.5 L and 2.0 L specification tables.
Difficulty, time, and cost are estimates when this guide gives them. Torque is a cited figure, or it is left off.
Main source: 2019 Civic Sedan Owner's Manual, transmission fluid section and specifications (opens in a new tab), American Honda Motor Co., Inc., published 2018-10-26, read 2026-10-15.
Numbers on this page come from the cited source. Match the engine before you use a capacity or a torque. Do not work under a vehicle held only by a jack.
No drain tool is specified
The maintenance chapter tells the owner not to change CVT fluid. This page records the specified fluid and the change capacity only.
| Item | Figure | Where it comes from |
|---|---|---|
| 1.5 L CVT | Honda HCF-2. Change 3.9 US qt (3.7 L). Not available on all models. | 1.5 L specifications, continuously variable transmission fluid |
| 1.5 L manual | Honda MTF. Change 2.0 US qt (1.9 L). Not available on all models. | 1.5 L specifications, manual transmission fluid |
| 2.0 L CVT | Honda HCF-2. Change 3.7 US qt (3.5 L). Not available on all models. | 2.0 L specifications, continuously variable transmission fluid |
| 2.0 L manual | Honda MTF. Change 2.0 US qt (1.9 L). Not available on all models. | 2.0 L specifications, manual transmission fluid |
The 1.5 L and 2.0 L specification tables each list a CVT row and a manual row, marked not available on all models. Use the row for the engine and transmission in the car.
The maintenance chapter says to have a dealer check the fluid level and replace it if necessary, and not to check or change the continuously variable transmission fluid yourself. The change quarts are the specified capacities, not a driveway drain procedure.
Honda MTF change capacity is 2.0 US qt (1.9 L) on both engine tables. The manual does not print a drain-plug torque for the manual transmission.
A temporary motor-oil substitute is mentioned only for the manual transmission, and only until MTF is installed. It is not a CVT fluid. No transmission drain torque is printed in the pages used for this sheet.
