2021 Honda Civic
2021 Honda Civic sedan CVT fluid capacities for the 1.5 L and 2.0 L engines. The manual says not to service the CVT yourself.
Difficulty, time, and cost are estimates when this guide gives them. Torque is a cited figure, or it is left off.
Main source: 2021 Civic Sedan Owner's Manual, transmission fluid and specifications (opens in a new tab), American Honda Motor Co., Inc., published 2020-08-25, read 2026-10-15.
Numbers on this page come from the cited source. Match the engine before you use a capacity or a torque. Do not work under a vehicle held only by a jack.
Honda dealer
The transmission section says to have a dealer check the level and replace the fluid if necessary, and not to check or change it yourself.
| Item | Figure | Where it comes from |
|---|---|---|
| 2.0 L CVT | Honda HCF-2. Change 3.7 US qt (3.5 L). | 2.0 L continuously variable transmission fluid |
| 1.5 L CVT | Honda HCF-2. Change 3.9 US qt (3.7 L). | 1.5 L continuously variable transmission fluid |
| Brake fluid | Honda Heavy Duty Brake Fluid DOT 3, on both engine specification pages. | Brake fluid specifications |
The maintenance section specifies Honda HCF-2, then says to have a dealer check the fluid level and replace it if necessary. It says not to attempt the check or the change yourself.
The 2.0 L specifications page lists a change of 3.7 US qt (3.5 L). The 1.5 L page lists a change of 3.9 US qt (3.7 L). Those are table quantities, not a driveway fill procedure.
Both specification pages list Honda Heavy Duty Brake Fluid DOT 3. That row is the brake fluid row, not the CVT row.
The sedan specifications do not split the CVT capacity by 2WD and AWD. Each capacity belongs to the engine page it is printed on.
