Park on level ground, apply the parking brake, run the engine to operating temperature, shut it off, and wait 15 minutes. Raise and support it at the jack-up points.
Remove the engine-protector pins and the protector. Put a drain pan under the drain plug and filter. Remove the filler cap. Remove the drain plug counterclockwise and drain the oil.
Loosen the filter with a wrench and remove it by hand. Wipe the mounting surface and remove old gasket material. Coat the new gasket with clean oil. Screw the filter on until a slight resistance is felt, then tighten more than 2/3 turn. Filter torque is 14.7 to 20.6 N-m (11 to 15 ft-lb).
Clean and reinstall the drain plug with a new washer. Drain-plug torque is 29 to 39 N-m (22 to 29 ft-lb). Do not use excessive force. Refill through the filler opening. With a filter change the approximate capacity is 4.6 L (4-7/8 qt).
Start the engine, check for leaks, shut it off, and wait more than 15 minutes. Read the dipstick and add oil if needed. Reinstall the engine protector and lower the vehicle. Reset the oil and filter reminder.
The capacity table says the figures are approximate and that the do-it-yourself procedure, not the table alone, sets the refill. Imperial measures are also printed: 4 qt with the filter and 3-3/4 qt without. This page leads with the US and metric columns.
