Safety

• Hot coolant is pressurized. Do not open a hot cap. Let the engine cool.
• Do not substitute windshield-washer fluid for coolant. The washer section says that substitution can damage paint.
• The book does not print a radiator-drain torque or a bleed sequence, so none is added here.

Symptoms

• The capacity row is the cooling system with the reservoir, not a heater-core drain.
• First replacement is 105,000 miles (168,000 km) or 84 months. After that, every 75,000 miles (120,000 km) or 60 months.

Diagnosis

1. Capacity is 9.8 L (2-5/8 gal, 2-1/8 Imp. gal) with the reservoir.
2. The fluid row names pre-diluted Genuine NISSAN Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant (blue) or equivalent.
3. Note (5) on the maintenance schedule says to use that blue coolant or equivalent at 50 percent antifreeze and 50 percent demineralized or distilled water. Mixing another type, or using non-distilled water, may shorten the life of the factory fill.

2. 02Treat 9.8 L as the with-reservoir reference

   The table prints 9.8 L (2-5/8 gal, 2-1/8 Imp. gal) with the reservoir. It says capacities are approximate. It does not print a separate without-reservoir row.

3. 03Follow the interval in this printing

   First replacement is 105,000 miles (168,000 km) or 84 months. After that, every 75,000 miles (120,000 km) or 60 months. A 2017 figure is not a 2020 figure even where the sentence matches. Read the page for the year you have.

Common mistakes

• Pouring a green or orange coolant into a system the book fills with the blue Nissan coolant.
• Using tap water because the note says non-distilled water may shorten coolant life.
• Copying a quart from a different Pathfinder year without opening that year's table.
