Safety

• The 2.0L and the 2.7L do not share a capacity or a filter. Read the engine before you buy.
• Do not use supplemental engine oil additives. The book says they are unnecessary and could lead to engine damage.
• Do not use an oil labeled API SN unless the label also shows the API certification mark.
• Hot-climate rows for the Middle East, North Africa, and similar climates are not the U.S. and Canada normal interval.
• No drain-plug torque is printed on the capacity pages, so none is added.

Symptoms

• The information display says Change Engine Oil Soon, or Oil Change Required.
• The oil-life remaining is 10 percent or less, or it is at 0 percent.

Diagnosis

1. 2.0L EcoBoost is 5.5 qt with filter FL-910-S. 2.7L EcoBoost is 6.0 qt with filter FL-2062. Both use SAE 5W-30 meeting WSS-M2C946-B1.
2. Reset the Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor after the oil and filter are changed. The maintenance chart points to the oil-change indicator reset.
3. Towing, mountainous roads, extended idling, and extreme hot or cold operation move the expected message earlier. Those bands are on the oil-life table.

1. 01Match the engine

   The 2.0L EcoBoost capacity is 5.5 qt of SAE 5W-30 with filter FL-910-S. The 2.7L EcoBoost is 6.0 qt of the same grade with filter FL-2062.

2. 02Use the oil-life message

   Normal commuting with highway driving expects the message at 7,500–10,000 miles. Severe use is 5,000–7,500. Extreme use is 3,000–5,000. Reset the monitor after the change.

3. 03Leave the drain torque off this page

   The capacity table does not print a drain-plug torque or a pan picture. Do not invent one.

Common mistakes

• Pouring 6.0 quarts into the 2.0L, or installing FL-2062 on the 2.0L.
• Treating 5.5 or 6.0 quarts as a top-up on an engine that still has oil in it.
• Using the 3,000-mile hot-climate sentence for a U.S. or Canada Edge that is not operating in those climates.
• Skipping the oil-life reset.
