Published repairs below cite a manual or a manufacturer chart. Coming soon pages are names only. Capacities and torque on this year stay on this year.
This year uses publication 17Y532-126-AE. The cover language for Canada sales is on the model page.
Oil, coolant, spark plugs, tires, transmission fluid, both filters, the battery, wipers, bulbs, brakes, lug nuts, and the drive belt are filed from that book. Other Grand Caravan years are not filed.
2017 is publication 17Y532-126-AE. The back page of that PDF prints Fifth Edition, and the file properties list 4th Edition. The cover says vehicles sold in Canada substitute FCA Canada Inc. for FCA US LLC. Other Grand Caravan years are not filed here.
Copied from the published guides for this year. Each figure stays with that guide and that guide's source. Open the guide before you use it.
| Guide | Item | Figure |
|---|---|---|
| Accessory drive belt | When it is checked | Drive belt tension should be checked when the air conditioner is serviced at the start of each warm season. The book assigns that air-conditioning service to a dealer. |
| Accessory drive belt | Length, routing, and tension | Not printed. No path is drawn. |
| Automatic transmission fluid | Fluid | ATF+4 only. Mopar ATF+4 is recommended. The book says other fluid may affect how the transmission works. |
| Automatic transmission fluid | Capacity | Not printed. |
| Automatic transmission fluid | Normal change | The chart marks change automatic transmission fluid and filter at 120,000 miles, which is also the 12-year column. The chart header is mileage or time, whichever comes first. |
| Automatic transmission fluid | Severe use | Police, taxi, fleet, or frequent trailer towing: the chart marks the fluid and filter at 60,000 miles (also year 6) and at 120,000 miles (also year 12). |
| Battery | Type | Maintenance-free. Never add water. No periodic maintenance is required, and no part number is printed. |
| Battery | Terminals | Inspect the battery and clean and tighten the terminals as required at every oil-change interval. |
| Battery | Cables | Positive cable to the positive post and negative cable to the negative post. Posts are marked on the case. |
| Battery | Storage | If the van will sit more than 21 days, the book says you may remove the 60 amp cartridge in the totally integrated power module labeled Ignition-Off Draw. |
| Brake pads and rotors | Brake fluid | Mopar DOT 3. If DOT 3 is not available, DOT 4 is acceptable. No capacity is printed. |
| Brake pads and rotors | Every oil change | Inspect brake pads, shoes, rotors, drums, hoses, and the park brake. |
| Brake pads and rotors | Chart | Inspect the brake linings and replace as necessary at 20,000, 40,000, 60,000, 80,000, 100,000, 120,000, and 140,000 miles. Those columns are also years 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, and 14, whichever comes first. |
| Brake pads and rotors | Pad thickness and caliper torque | Not printed. |
| Cabin air filter | Location | Fresh-air inlet behind the glove compartment. |
| Cabin air filter | Install direction | Arrow on the filter pointing toward the floor. The retaining tabs must fully engage the cover. |
| Cabin air filter | Interval | The chart marks replacement at 20,000, 40,000, 60,000, 80,000, 100,000, 120,000, and 140,000 miles. Those columns are also years 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, and 14. The header is whichever comes first. |
| Cabin air filter | Part number | Not printed. |
| Engine air filter | Filter | Mopar engine air cleaner filters are recommended. No part number is printed, and no housing steps are printed. |
| Engine air filter | Interval | Replace at 30,000, 60,000, 90,000, 120,000, and 150,000 miles. Those columns are also years 3, 6, 9, 12, and 15. The header is whichever comes first. |
| Engine air filter | Dusty use | Inspect the engine air cleaner at every oil-change interval when the van is used in dusty or off-road conditions. |
| Engine coolant | 3.6L cooling system | 13.4 quarts (12.6 liters), including the heater and the recovery bottle filled to MAX. Add 2.9 quarts (2.8 liters) if the van has a rear heater. |
| Engine coolant | Type | Mopar Antifreeze/Coolant 10 Year/150,000 Mile Formula OAT meeting FCA Material Standard MS.90032. Do not mix it with HOAT or a globally compatible coolant. |
| Engine coolant | Mix | At least 50% OAT coolant meeting MS.90032 and distilled or deionized water. Up to 70% if temperatures below -34 F (-37 C) are expected. The book says to ask a dealer about that higher mix. |
| Engine coolant | Level | Engine off and cold, the bottle should be between the ranges marked on the bottle. The radiator normally stays full, so the pressure cap is not removed for a routine level check. |
| Engine coolant | Change | The coolant text says it can be used up to 10 years or 150,000 miles (240,000 km) before replacement. The chart says to flush and replace at 10 years or 150,000 miles (240,000 km), whichever comes first. |
| Engine oil and filter | 3.6L with filter | 6 quarts (5.6 liters). SAE 5W-20, API certified, meeting FCA Material Standard MS-6395, such as Mopar, Pennzoil, and Shell Helix. The filler cap also shows the SAE grade. |
| Engine oil and filter | If 5W-20 is unavailable | Mopar SAE 5W-30 meeting MS-6395, such as Pennzoil or Shell Helix, may be used only when SAE 5W-20 meeting MS-6395 is not available. |
| Engine oil and filter | Oil filter | Full-flow filter. Mopar engine oil filters are recommended. No part number is printed. |
| Engine oil and filter | Level | Keep the level in the SAFE crosshatch. Adding 1 quart at the bottom of the mark reads the top of the mark. Check about five minutes after a fully warmed engine is shut off, on level ground. |
| Engine oil and filter | Interval | Follow the oil-change indicator. Do not exceed 10,000 miles (16,000 km), 12 months, or 350 engine hours, whichever comes first. Severe duty, dusty and off-road or mostly idle or very low RPM, is 4,000 miles (6,500 km). |
| Engine oil and filter | Fuel | Approximate tank 20 gallons (76 liters). 3.6L gas: 87 octane, 0-15% ethanol. 3.6L flex: 87 octane, up to 85% ethanol. |
| Exterior bulbs | Headlamp | H11LL. Do not touch the glass. Oil on the bulb is cleaned with rubbing alcohol. |
| Exterior bulbs | Fog lamp | PSX24W, if equipped. Access is from the rear of the fascia. |
| Exterior bulbs | Front side marker, park, and turn | 3757A or PY27/7W. |
| Exterior bulbs | Rear tail, stop, and turn | LED. Serviced at an authorized dealer. The assembly is removed with two screws and two ball studs, but the LED itself is not a bulb you replace. |
| Exterior bulbs | Center high-mounted stop lamp | LED. Replace the assembly. It is not serviceable as a separate bulb. |
| Exterior bulbs | Backup lamp | 3157. |
| Exterior bulbs | License lamp | 168. |
| Spark plugs | Plug | Mopar spark plugs are recommended. No part number, gap, or torque is printed. |
| Spark plugs | Interval | The chart marks replacement at the 100,000-mile column. The footnote says the spark plug change interval is mileage based only, and yearly intervals do not apply. |
| Spark plugs | Firing order | Not printed. No sequence is drawn on this page. |
| Tire pressure | Cold pressure | The placard on the driver's side B-pillar or the rear edge of the driver's door. This book does not print a psi number for the van. |
| Tire pressure | Cold | The vehicle has not been driven for at least three hours, or has been driven less than 1 mile (1.6 km) after sitting for three hours. Do not let cold pressure exceed the maximum molded on the sidewall. |
| Tire pressure | Temperature | Pressure changes about 1 psi (7 kPa) per 12 F (7 C). Do not bleed off the normal 2 to 6 psi (13 to 40 kPa) rise from driving. |
| Tire pressure | Check | At least monthly, including the spare, with a pocket-type gauge. Reinstall the valve-stem cap. Also check before a long trip. |
| Tire pressure | Tire service kit threshold | Below 19 psi (1.3 bar), the kit instructions say the tire is too damaged to drive. At 19 psi or higher, inflate to the pressure on the driver-side door label. 19 psi is not the placard. |
| Wheel lug nuts | Torque | 100 ft-lbs (135 N·m). |
| Wheel lug nuts | Stud and socket | M12 x 1.5. 19 mm socket. Use a calibrated torque wrench and a six-sided deep socket. |
| Wheel lug nuts | Pattern | Star pattern, until each nut or bolt has been tightened twice. Do not fully tighten until the vehicle has been lowered. |
| Wheel lug nuts | Recheck | After 25 miles (40 km), check that the nuts are seated against the wheel. |
| Windshield wiper blades | Blades | No length and no part number are printed. Replace or clean when they chatter, leave marks, leave water lines, or leave wet spots. |
| Windshield wiper blades | Washer reservoir | Front and rear washers share one reservoir. It holds a full gallon when the Low Washer Fluid light comes on. Use washer solvent, not radiator antifreeze. |
| Windshield wiper blades | Washer fluid | Mopar All Weather Windshield Washer Solution or equivalent, mixed with water as the container directs. |
