2024 Silverado 1500 engine heater, if equipped. Plug in at least four hours at or below 0 F on a grounded 110-volt outlet.
| Item | Figure |
|---|---|
| When to plug in | If equipped, the engine heater can make starting easier and improve fuel economy during warm-up at or below -18°C (0°F). Plug in at least four hours before starting. |
| Thermostat | An internal thermostat in the plug end of the cord may prevent heater operation above -18°C (0°F). |

The procedure starts with the engine off. The connector location is a figure labeled base model shown, others similar. It is not redrawn.
If the heater cord is damaged, do not use it. See a dealer for a replacement. Inspect the cord for damage yearly.
Plug the heater cord into the connector on the vehicle, then into a grounded 110-volt AC outlet with ground fault detection. Use a three-prong receptacle. A weatherproof heavy-duty 15-amp extension cord is the cord the warning names if one is needed.
Before starting, unplug and store the cord. Reattach the cover to the plug and keep the cord away from moving parts. How long to leave it plugged in depends on several factors. The book says to ask a dealer in the area where the truck will be parked. It does print a minimum of four hours before starting when the temperature is at or below -18°C (0°F).
The plug-in duration beyond that four-hour minimum is not a number in this book. The figure that shows the connector is not redrawn.
