When the wipers are not being used, they retract below the hood. Within approximately 45 seconds of turning the engine switch off, move the wiper lever to the position marked for the U.S.A. or the position marked for Canada and hold it for approximately 2 seconds or more. The wipers move to the service position so they can be lifted for cold parking or for replacing a windshield wiper insert.

The 2019 Camry wiper section says the blades retract below the hood. The service position is for cold-weather parking and for replacing a windshield wiper insert. The lever positions are marked *1 for the U.S.A. and *2 for Canada, and the marks themselves are symbols in the manual.
