Published repairs below cite a manual or a manufacturer chart. Coming soon pages are names only. Capacities and torque on this year stay on this year.
This year uses the 2019 Sorento owner's manual, copyright 2018 Kia Motors America. The Theta II 2.4 GDI and the Lambda II 3.3 GDI are separate rows.
Oil, coolant, transmission fluid, brakes, both filters, spark plugs, the drive belt, tire pressure, and wheel nuts are filed from that book. A wiper length and a bulb trade number were not in the sections read for this batch.
2019 is the U.S. owner's manual whose specifications chapter prints the Theta II 2.4 GDI and the Lambda II 3.3 GDI. Other Sorento years are not filed here.
Copied from the published guides for this year. Each figure stays with that guide and that guide's source. Open the guide before you use it.
| Guide | Item | Figure |
|---|---|---|
| Automatic transmission fluid | Classification | ATF SP-IV or equivalent. |
| Automatic transmission fluid | Theta II 2.4 GDI volume cell | 7.50 US qt (7.1 L). The text layer places this quantity on a Theta II 2.4 GDI row in the block that ends with ATF SP-IV. It is not the 5.07 US qt oil row. |
| Automatic transmission fluid | Lambda II 3.3 GDI volume cell | 8.24 US qt (7.8 L). Same block, on the Lambda II 3.3 GDI row. |
| Automatic transmission fluid | Normal schedule | Automatic transmission fluid: no check, no service required. |
| Automatic transmission fluid | Severe schedule | Replace every 60,000 miles (96,000 km). |
| Brake pads and rotors | Brake fluid | 0.445 to 0.485 US qt (0.41 to 0.45 L). FMVSS 116 DOT-3 or DOT-4. |
| Brake pads and rotors | Reservoir | The level should be between the MIN and MAX marks. Use only hydraulic brake fluid conforming to DOT 3 or DOT 4. |
| Brake pads and rotors | Pads and discs | Inspect on every column of the normal chart, every 7,500 miles (12,000 km) or 12 months. The explanation says to check pads for excessive wear, discs for runout and wear, and calipers for leakage. |
| Brake pads and rotors | Brake fluid inspection | The later normal-chart row marks brake fluid on the even columns: every 15,000 miles or 24 months. |
| Cabin air filter | Normal interval | Replace on every column, every 7,500 miles (12,000 km) or 12 months. |
| Cabin air filter | Severe dust | Replace more frequently when the severe-condition list includes heavy dust, mountain roads, or the other conditions named on that row. |
| Drive belt | First inspection | 60,000 miles (96,000 km) or 72 months. |
| Drive belt | Later inspections | Every 15,000 miles (24,000 km) or 24 months after the first inspection. |
| Drive belt | Replacement | The footnote says the drive belt should be replaced when cracks occur or tension is reduced. |
| Drive belt | What to look for | Cuts, cracks, excessive wear, or oil saturation. Check tension and adjust as necessary. No tension number is printed. |
| Engine air filter | Normal pattern | Inspect, inspect, inspect, replace, repeating. Replace marks fall on 30,000, 60,000, and 90,000 miles. Inspect marks are the 7,500-mile columns between those replacements. |
| Engine air filter | Severe dust | Replace more frequently for rough, dusty, muddy, unpaved, or salt-spread roads, and for heavy dust. |
| Engine air filter | Filter | A Genuine Kia air cleaner filter is recommended when the filter is replaced. No element number is printed. |
| Engine coolant | Theta II 2.4 GDI | 8.35 US qt (7.9 L). Mixture of antifreeze and distilled water, ethylene-glycol base coolant for an aluminum radiator. |
| Engine coolant | Lambda II 3.3 GDI | 9.83 US qt (9.3 L). Same coolant description. |
| Engine coolant | First change | 120,000 miles (192,000 km) or 10 years. After that, every 30,000 miles (48,000 km) or 24 months. |
| Engine oil and filter | Theta II 2.4 GDI, drain and refill | 5.07 US qt (4.8 L). API SM or above, or SN if SM is unavailable. ILSAC GF-4 or above, or GF-5 if GF-4 is unavailable. ACEA A5 or above. |
| Engine oil and filter | Lambda II 3.3 GDI, drain and refill | 6.87 US qt (6.5 L). Same API, ILSAC, and ACEA classes. |
| Engine oil and filter | Normal interval | Replace at every column of the non-turbo chart, which is every 7,500 miles (12,000 km) or 12 months. Both engines are marked R on those columns. |
| Engine oil and filter | Severe interval | Every 3,750 miles (6,000 km) or 6 months, for both engines. |
| Engine oil and filter | Viscosity chart | The 2.4 GDI temperature-chart text lists 5W-20, 5W-30, and 10W-30. The 3.3 GDI line lists 5W-30. The temperature bands did not survive as separate columns, so none are assigned. |
| Spark plugs | Theta II 2.4 GDI | Replace every 97,500 miles (156,000 km). |
| Spark plugs | Lambda II 3.3 GDI | Replace every 97,500 miles (156,000 km). |
| Spark plugs | Heat range | Install new spark plugs of the correct heat range. No gap, torque, or part number is printed. |
| Spark plugs | Severe use | Replace more frequently. The severe chart does not print a shorter mile. |
| Tire pressure | Full-size sizes | 235/65R17 on 7.0J×17, 235/60R18 on 7.5J×18, and 235/55R19 on 7.5J×19. |
| Tire pressure | Full-size cold pressure | The pressure cells print 2.35 kgf/cm2 (34 psi, 235 kPa) front and rear, in both the normal-load and maximum-load columns. |
| Tire pressure | Normal load | The footnote says normal load is up to 3 persons. |
| Tire pressure | Compact spare | T165/90R17 on 4.0T×17. Pressure cell 4.2 kgf/cm2 (60 psi, 420 kPa). |
| Tire pressure | Cold weather | It is permissible to add 3 psi to the standard specification if colder temperatures are expected soon. Tires typically lose 1 psi for every 12°F temperature drop. |
| Wheel lug nuts | Full-size block | 11 to 13 kgf·m (79 to 94 lbf·ft, 107 to 127 N·m). The text layer attaches that range to the full-size tire block. |
| Wheel lug nuts | Compact spare row | The spare pressure is printed. A separate nut-torque cell for the spare was not in the extracted row. |
| Guide | Fastener | Torque |
|---|---|---|
| Wheel lug nuts | Wheel nut, full-size block | 11 to 13 kgf·m (79 to 94 lbf·ft, 107 to 127 N·m). |
